DJ/Rupture "Uproot"

DJ /Rupture consistently defies genre and destination. His Nettle project (on the Agriculture) is now a 4-piece live band. He regularly collaborates with guitarist Andy Moor and post punk legends The Ex. His 3-turntable party rocking DJ sets have led to gigs across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Japan (not to mention two Peel Sessions and a stint as turntable soloist with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra). He blogs. He hosts a radio show on freeform legendary station WFMU 91.1FM.  And finally, after a few years' silence, he's releasing a new mix album.

About the Album:

Uproot, Rupture's first release since returning to Brooklyn after seven years in Spain, offers his most intimate work to date.

Rupture is not a DJ to rest on previous highs, but who constantly looks for new ones. He proved that he can DJ fast & dense with his influential Gold Teeth Thief & Minesweeper Suite mixes - now it's time for the sensual slow dance of a (relatively) smooth turntablist-experience that deepens on repeat listens. How many DJs do you know who commission a string quartet for their latest mix?

Uproot downshifts into languorous long-blends and gorgeous moments of ambient warmth. (With 9 exclusive bangers thrown in 'cause Rupture's good like that). This is surely his most "listenable" mix to date, blended seamlessly with elements from UK dubstep and Brooklyn dancehall to Berlin abstraction, not to mention Brazil (Maga Bo), Finland (Clouds), Australia (Dead Leaf) and more...

Taking the twin lessons of bass and space taught by 70s Jamaican dub visionaries, Uproot explores a wealth of new material -- almost half of it previously unreleased -- in a mix that is deep, contemplative, and contagious.   Cosmopolitan bass never sounded so good.

About the Tracks:

Uproot surges forward with the future bass precision of producers like Ghislain Poirier, Maga Bo, and Timeblind; and stays rooted  with a nod to the origins of the Agriculture and mid 90s NYC illbient.  Opening Uproot, the gorgeous digi-dub of Clouds' classic "Elders" emerges beautifully from the syncopated beats of scene newcomers Baby Kites and Nokea's  “Reef”.  Moving deeper along the folds of the ghosts of New York’s downtown improvisation scene is the work of Jenny Jones. Jenny Jones exquisite string composition for violin, viola and cello resulted from Rupture asking her to compose a piece to blend with Matt Shadetek's echoplex remix of Iron Shirt's "I Gave You All My Love". On Filastine's "Hungry Ghost (Instrumental)"  and Timeblind’s heavy "Strategy Decay”, there are two distinct approaches to space. "Hungry Ghost" fills every bar with triplets that brim over with kinetic energy. Strategy Decay opens rhythmic space with sparse percussion while filling nearly every moment with an surging bass.  Rio-based producer Maga Bo and Morrocan vocalist Big's "3 Akel" acapella sits inside the suspended bassline-time of Timeblind's "Strategy Decay" like it was born there - the 3-tune mix sounds like a single song (now is when those separate Ingredients get useful...).   Dead Leaf's  "Save From The Flames All that Yet Remains" provides one of the most powerful moments in the mix (more unreleased beauty from Rupture's deep crates). Haunting strings evoking Russian winters move against a rustling background sample. Surprise to find then that Dead Leaf is a new project from Jabba, one half of Australian dubstep duo Moving Ninja whose bass-concrete track "Uranium" is also included here.
